History of Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), was already the center of commerce centuries ago.The merchants from China, Japan and many European countries used to visit Pho Island, center of trade, along the Saigon River.

In 1874 Cho Lon merged with Saigon and became the biggest city in Indochina. It often was called The Pearl Of The Far East. After the unification of all of Vietnam, the 6th congress officially changed the name Saigon to Ho Chi Minh City on July 2, 1976. Its history is deeply related to Vietnam’s independent resistance.

Currently Ho Chi Minh City is a center of science, technology and industry and a core tourism destination as well as the center of commerce.
